“Always a wonderful meal and great service AND NOW also Gluten Free - including pasta dishes!”
The quality of the food at La Scala is always simply superb - whether it be meat, fish or pasta. The atmosphere is so typically Italian and the service is warm and friendly - Franco is a great host! To be able to eat a typically Italian meal that is gluten free - inlcuding pasta dishes, is just absolutely fantastic - we eat at La scala in Dover regularly and have never been disappointed. We highly recommend this restauarant - and wish more would take up the opportunity to offer safe gluten free dining to those on this restrictive diet. Thank you La Scala - such A TREAT! “Quality food, and excellent service. Perfect.”
My husband and I often frequent La Scala, and we have yet to be dissappointed. The presentation and quality of the food is superb, as is the service. I would reccomend booking as this little restaurant can get very busy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and interesting with a beautiful spiral staircase leading to a upstairs seating area. Italian food is not just pasta! The menu is has plenty to chose from, for all tastes. Visited May 2011

“That was good”
Three of had a ‘working lunch’ one of our group was in a hurry. They were served first and were able to get away in plenty of time for their meeting. The service was very friendly and the food was excellent. It is a long time since I have had an Itallian meal as good as that. (probably when I went to Pisa). The food was hot and served on hot plates. The quality and taste was outstanding. My Wife and I are very fussy where we go and only have about 5 places where we frequent. This will definately be No. 6. The only downside is that nearly £3.50 for a glass of red house wine is a bit expensive especially for Dover. Visited February 2011

“Exquisite Sea Food Entrees”
La Scala was recommended by our B&B hosts. We like sea food and we like food that is well prepared. We are willing to pay a bit more for an excellent dining experience. We were not disappointed at La Scala. Our sea food was lovingly prepared, the taste exquisite, the vegatables were fresh and eye-pleasing, the chef and staff were attentive to our special requests. It was a memorable dining experience. We highly recommend La Scala. Visited September 2010

“You won’t find better in dover”
These two brothers , Franco and jonny , really do know their stuff . Excellent food and excellent service every time . My only criticism is that they have taken the cannelloni off the menu and I loved it ! Hopefully you can now by it in there new pasta and pizza house in the Market square. Visited January 2010

“Excellent food, service and COFFEE!”
Great Italian food. We were visiting from Canada and decided to come to this restaurant only because of the reviews it received in Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. Everything we ordered from the wine to the appetizer special (Squid!), the main course, the chocolate desserts and especially the coffee was excellent. The service was great. The little polish girl, along with the owner’s brother happily served us up and down the spiral staircase even though we requested many little things which required many trips. We like everything about this place so much that we came back the next night for more. BEST coffee around. You won’t be disappointed in this restaurant. Visited November 2010

“This restaurant made our day!”
Last friday we made a one day trip to the UK together with another family. Before going back to the Euro Tunnel we decided to find a restaurant in Dover for dinner. The first one we encountered was La Scala. Were we lucky! The food was superb and very fresh. We had steak, venison, sea bass and rigatoni. It was all very tasteful and perfectly cooked. For desserts we had ice cream, tiramisu and the homemade chocolate torte. All desserts were to die for, really!. On top of that the staff was very, very friendly and the place (open kitchen) looks tidy and clean too. Prices are also extremely reasonable compared with those in Belgium. To be honest, I wouldn’t realy describe the restauarant as a typical Italian. It’s more a mix of Italian, French and British cuisine I think. But you can’t get better rigatoni or tiramisu in Italy! It is said that we Belgians are spoiled with food and restaurants, but believe me, this place made our day despite of the miserable weather! Visited November 2010

“Dosn’t matter if you dont like Italian”
We took a friend who dosn’t eat cheese or tomatoes, they were so friendly and accomodating for her ‘fads’ the food was excellant. Two sittings 6.30 and 8.30, although it was very cosy they moved our table when one became vacant NO FUSS. Even had a free glass of wine with the chef. Good job done by all the staff. “Fantastic Food and Service”
Never been to Dover before (other than passing through to ferry) and our first impressions were that it is very run down and only fast food available. We then stumbled on La Scala - what a difference. Excellent ambiance, quality food at a reasonable price and first class attention from the staff (including the chef who came out to serve and talk to us). Well worth a visit. Visited September 2010

“Fab Food”
We’ve eaten here several times and it can’t be beaten in Dover. The food is fabulous and combined with the friendly and jovial atmosphere created by the Italian owners it always makes for a good evening. Visited September 2010

“Amazing food, real home made Italian and great hospitality !”
If you have the time for a relaxing evening you cannot go wrong with La Scala. The food was just terrific. The seafood was fresh and the Tiramisu was amazing. Great service and good price. Visited September 2010

“REAL Italian food and hospitality”
We lunched here on the first Friday in September and were very impressed - by the menu, the cosy restaurant, the cooking, the wine, and the friendly easy charm of the waiter. The mussels were superb, as was the goujons of plaice starter. The steaks were on the thin side, but perfectly cooked in a delicious sauce, the prawns and the salmon and asparagus pasta were excellent. The puddings (Canolli and Tiramisu) were a perfect end to the meal. How refreshing to find good Italian food that is actually cooked on the premises - delicious. I wish we lived a bit closer! “Very friendly service and great tasting food.”
Our car had broken down in dover and faced with a 2 hour wait on bank holiday monday we asked a local of good places to eat with small children. La Scala was one of them. The great experience we had there has prompted me to write my 1st trip advisor review as we were so impressed. The owner allowed us to come in earlier than their advised opening times and really made the children feel welcome. Our children were a little tired and weary and he really seemed unphased by them. Then the food arrived. We thought we would order the staple pasta and meatballs for the children and for ourselves the chicken and pasta dish. My 7yr old completley cleared her plate (which she hasn’t done in a while) and so did the 2 yr old. We also devoured our pasta dish. The seasoning and flavours were absolutely delicious. You could clearly see the children’s meatballs were also homemade and very tasty. If we are ever passing Dover again I would rush to go back there. Visited September 2010

“Had dinner on August 31st 2010”
We were staying in Dover overnight to catch the ferry to France the next day. We were recommended to go to La Scala. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and our meal was superb. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very friendly. We shall visit again on our next trip to Dover. Thank you to all the staff. Visited August 2010

“Good Food, Good Atmosphere, Good Service, Good Evening!”
We went to La Scala on a Saturday and had a great meal - the restaurant was fully booked, which isn’t surprising. The menu was comprehensive and the Specials added to this. Well worth a try! Visited March 2010

“A little gem in an otherwise not very sparkling town”
We had a family celebration here on Saturday, and I can’t praise it enough. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and is run by extremely friendly and attentive Italians. The chef was very sensitive to dietary needs of one of our party and the food was delicious. Good traditional Italian food (no pizzas), made it a really great evening overall. The restaurant is small and you will need to book - there are about 25 seats downstairs and another 12 upstairs (via a spiral staircase, so bear in mind if anyone in your party has mobility problems), but this makes it very cosy and intimate. Price was £170 for party of six with 3 courses, 2 bottles of wine and 2 beers. Visited March 2010
